The <\/span>1926 labor unrest in Paterson, New Jersey<\/strong> was closely connected to the much larger <\/span>Passaic Textile Strike of 1926<\/strong>, while Paterson also experienced its own successful silk workers’ campaign for shorter hours. Together they marked the resurgence of organized labor in North Jersey after the famous 1913 Silk Strike.<\/span><\/div>\n

1. The 1926 Paterson Silk Workers’ Campaign (44-Hour Week)<\/h2>\n

In January 1926, Paterson’s silk workers, represented primarily by the Associated Silk Workers<\/strong> and supported by the United Textile Workers (AFL)<\/strong>, sought to enforce an 8-hour day and 44-hour work week<\/strong> throughout the city’s silk industry.<\/p>\n

Unlike the dramatic 1913 strike, this dispute was largely settled through the threat of a citywide walkout.<\/p>\n
