St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church<\/span><\/span><\/span> is one of Paterson’s historic Roman Catholic parishes. Located at 138 Beech Street<\/strong> in the city’s Northside neighborhood, it has long served successive immigrant communities and today is a vibrant multilingual parish within the Diocese of Paterson.<\/p>\n

History<\/h3>\n

The parish was established in 1892<\/strong> to serve Paterson’s rapidly growing Italian-American<\/strong> population. During the late nineteenth century, thousands of immigrants from southern Italy settled in the surrounding neighborhood to work in Paterson’s silk mills and other industries. As the community expanded, a separate parish dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua<\/strong>, one of Italy’s most beloved saints, was organized.<\/p>\n
