Since its founding in 1792, successive waves of immigrants have transformed the city into a community where dozens of languages are spoken and residents trace their ancestry to every inhabited continent.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"8bb89a\" data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"998\">Historical Waves of Immigration<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1000\" data-end=\"1084\">Paterson&#8217;s ethnic composition
