Historic photographs capture Costello smiling beside the unfinished bust as Federici worked, providing a rare glimpse into the creation of the portrait.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"731\" data-end=\"1024\">The bust is a realistic plaster portrait that captures Costello&#8217;s familiar round face, expressive eyes, and warm smile. Federici was renowned for his ability to create lifelike portraits, and this work is considered one of his finest celebrity sculptures.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"18znzbz\" data-start=\"1026\" data-end=\"1053\">Where the bust is today<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1055\" data-end=\"1396\">The original <strong data-start=\"1068\" data-end=\"1084\">plaster bust<\/strong> is preserved as part of the <strong data-start=\"1113\" data-end=\"1143\">Federici Studio Collection<\/strong>, where it is displayed among many of Federici&#8217;s original models, tools, and other sculptures documenting his career. The collection includes photographs of Costello visiting the studio during the sculpting process.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"oqaszp\" data-start=\"1398\" data-end=\"1425\">Historical significance<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1427\" data-end=\"1575\">The Lou Costello bust is significant because it brings together two figures who achieved national fame while remaining deeply connected to Paterson:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1863\">\n<li data-section-id=\"b4jjds\" data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1660\"><strong data-start=\"1579\" data-end=\"1595\">Lou Costello<\/strong>, America&#8217;s beloved comedian and one-half of Abbott and Costello.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ad3s8d\" data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"1863\"><strong data-start=\"1663\" data-end=\"1683\">Gaetano Federici<\/strong>, often called the <strong data-start=\"1702\" data-end=\"1738\">&#8220;Sculptor Laureate of Paterson,&#8221;<\/strong> who created more than forty public monuments throughout the city and surrounding area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"2172\">The sculpture also documents the friendship between the two men. They shared Paterson roots, and Costello frequently visited the city even after becoming a Hollywood star.
