André Sayegh

2018 – Current

Mayor André Sayegh has served as the Mayor of Paterson, New Jersey, since July 1, 2018. A lifelong Paterson resident, he has dedicated his career to public service with a focus on economic development, neighborhood revitalization, public safety, and improving the quality of life for the city’s residents. Under his leadership, the administration has worked to stabilize property taxes, encourage investment, expand tourism, and promote the continued revitalization of Paterson, including the nationally recognized Great Falls Historic District.

Before becoming mayor, Sayegh represented Paterson’s Sixth Ward on the City Council from 2008 to 2018. Earlier in his public service career, he served on the Paterson Board of Education, worked as Chief of Staff to New Jersey State Senator John A. Girgenti, and served as a Field Representative for Congressman Bill Pascrell.

Mayor Sayegh earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, graduating with highest honors from Seton Hall University, and a Master of Public Policy and Administration from Columbia University, where he also served as President of the Student Government. In addition to his public service, he has taught as an adjunct professor at Passaic County Community College, sharing his knowledge of government and public policy with future leaders.

Born and raised in Paterson, Mayor Sayegh is proud to call the city his lifelong home. He and his wife, Farhanna, are raising their three children in the community he has spent his life serving. His administration continues to emphasize collaboration, innovation, and inclusive growth while preserving Paterson’s rich history and diverse cultural heritage.
