Fetty Wap (born Willie Junior Maxwell II on June 7, 1991) is a rapper, singer, and songwriter from Paterson, New Jersey, who rose to international fame in 2015 with his breakout hit “Trap Queen.” He is one of the most commercially successful musicians ever to come from Paterson.
Early Life
Fetty Wap was born and raised in Paterson and attended Eastside High School, though he left school before graduating to pursue music. He was born with glaucoma in both eyes and lost the vision in his left eye as an infant, later wearing a prosthetic eye. Despite rumors, he has explained that he was not injured in an accident.
Rise to Fame
His 2014 single “Trap Queen” became a massive success, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song led to a recording contract with 300 Entertainment and launched a string of hit singles, including:
